The Gaspésie National Park, a must-see in Quebec

Mount Albert

Gaspésie National Park is a must in Québec. They call it « a real sea of mountains ». The Government of Quebec decided to make it a national park on April 14, 1937. At that time, there were only the other 2 national parks. Indeed, there are a multitude of national parks, so it is the 3rd one. In Gaspésie, you will have the chance to discover the incredible Chic-Chocs Mountains and McGerrigle. This 802 km2 park can only surprise you! More than 25 peaks to discover, the most famous are “Mont Jacques Cartier” and “Mont Albert”. However, the others are just as beautiful and incredible to count on. Each summit is unique and will blow your mind.

If you’re lucky, you’ll see real friends, caribou! These are the last caribou south of the St. Lawrence River. Their density is high in this park, for my experience I had the chance to see them from quite far away from “Mont Jacques-Cartier”.

Gaspésie National Park is open from May to the end of October and from December to the beginning of April. The rest of the time it is closed to help the regeneration of nature and the reproduction of caribou.

There are many accommodations in the park (Campgrounds, refuges, chalets and the inn « le gîte du Mont-Albert »

If you are interested in sports in general or want to do something other than the usual, know that the Sépaq offers a multitude of activities in the park. You can hike, kayak, paddle standing surf, canoe, pedal boat, fishing, salmon fishing, snowshoeing, skiing of all kinds and ice climbing.

Located 530km from Quebec City and 750km from Montreal, it is the ideal place to recharge your batteries with family or friends. This destination often overlooked by tourists will give you a completely different experience of Quebec, I promise you won’t be disappointed by your trip in Gaspésie. The beautiful landscapes of this region await you!
